Local Band Feature: Davy Jone’s Locker
By Allyson Kling
On Saturday, January 20th, I attended the debut gig of local band Davy Jones’ Locker, which is a new 3-piece pirate-punk band. This show, which was at Nomad Supply Co. in Doylestown, also featured bands Swing N’ A Miss and Temple of Mara.
Overall, the show was extraordinary and lots of fun. Davy Jones’ Locker was first in the night’s setlist, and they did not disappoint. All of their talented members put on an amazing show, playing original songs and a few covers. The crowd was extremely energized by their performance, and I personally loved the show.
Following the gig, I decided to interview Davy Jones’ Locker’s bassist and vocalist, Jack Galardi, who also happens to be a CB West senior, to learn more about the rising band.
Interview:
Me: Tell us a bit about your band. Who are the members? What kind of music do you specialize in?
Jack: We’re Davy Jones’ Locker, and we play pop punk/emo music loosely based on pirate stories and myths and stuff. Our members are Gabe Mallon (drums), Sean Donnelly (guitar and vocals), and Jack Galardi (bass and vocals). We try to write fun party-punk songs that people will enjoy live.
Me: How did the band come to be?
Jack: Our band started because I was looking to start a new band after my old bandmates went to college, and Sean and Gabe were looking for a third person to start a band called “Davy Jones’ Locker,” which I thought was awesome.
Me: What inspired your band’s creation?
Jack: We’re inspired by our love of live music and the local gigging scene. Our biggest influences are a blend of pop punk bands like New Found Glory and Saves The Day, as well as emo bands such as Snowing and Algernon Cadwallader.
Me: What kind of musical experience did you already have prior to being in Davy Jones’ Locker?
Jack: I mainly played guitar and vocals previously for an emo/math rock band called Bubblewrap Princess, and Sean and Gabe play guitar and drums in a local punk band called Left On The Right.
Me: What plans does the band have for the future?
Jack: Currently we’re booking gigs in Bucks County, Philadelphia, and surrounding areas. We also plan to record two songs followed by a longer release after those.
Me: Where can potential listeners and fans get news about events and content in regards to Davy Jones’ Locker?
Jack: Everything in on the gram (@davyjonespa). There you can find videos of out live sets, information and flyers for shows, and other pirate content.
Thanks, Jack!
