Bye-Bye Birdie: Elon Musk Steps Down from Twitter

After leading the Twitter community as CEO since late 2022, Elon Musk has announced that he is stepping down from his position. Additionally, he announced that he has found a new person for the job, whose name is not yet disclosed as of May 12th, 2023.

Elon Musk, most commonly known for his entrepreneurship with companies such as Tesla and SpaceX, has not spoken much on his reasoning for giving up his role as the CEO of Twitter, still regularly posting about other topics on Twitter. As said in his tweet above, he will still be involved in the Twitter company, but just not as CEO. According to the Los Angeles Times, Linda Yaccarino, an executive at NBCUniversal, will fill Musk’s former spot. As many process Elon’s move, they think back to a Tweet that he posted in December 2022: “I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job,” which was foreshadowing that most Twitter users probably didn’t take seriously. This December tweet was posted following the posting of a poll on Elon’s page, asking Twitter users if he should give up his role, which received a majority of “YES” votes. Elon’s “stepping down” tweet received over 33.4K retweets, including Mr. Beast’s comment, “I call dibs if she doesn’t work out.”
