Show Review: Wednesday

Laila Murray, Staff Writer

Wednesday is based on the classic movie The Addams Family. It follows Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) as she grows up, has visions, and attends a boarding school for outcasts/supernatural teenagers. When she arrives at Nevermore Academy, she meets many people, including her roommate Enid (Emma Myers); other students Xavier (Percy Hines White), Ajax (Georgie Farmer), and Bianca (Joy Sunday); local townspeople Tyler (Hunter Doohan) and the sheriff (Jamie McShane); and Mrs. Thornhill (Christina Ricci, who plays Wednesday in the 1991 Addams Family movie) and Principal Weems (Gwendolyn Christie). As Wednesday is finding her place at Nevermore, dark secrets are revealed to and discovered by her. She is the target of a murder, twice, and is saved by a mysterious monster who is going on killing streaks throughout town. Obviously, she starts to investigate to discover who the monster is, as well as who is controlling it and their motives. Wednesday also discovers her family’s tucked away past and dredges it back up, causing some problems for the whole family on one fateful weekend.

Overall, I really enjoyed the show and thought it was very interesting. I loved the costume choices with Wednesday’s very dark and emo outfits as well as Enid’s colorful and fun outfits. It was fas- paced with a lot of action. It kept me guessing who the villain was until the very end. The show has also started to become popular on TikTok with Wednesday’s dancing being compared to the song Bloody Mary by Lady Gaga and many edits.
