Club Dispatch: CB West Black Lives Matter Club
October 6, 2020
In light of recent and recurring issues our country faces, members of our high school community (along with our sponsor Mr. Blake) created The Black Lives Matter Club at CB West. We are a brand-new club this year, with about 35 current members, and are always looking for more people dedicated to protecting and promoting Black Lives. We want to create a community where everyone feels safe and comfortable to voice opinions and ideas on how to continue our action towards inclusion and fighting police brutality and all other forms of injustice against Black and Brown people.
We have many projects in the works including helping to diversify our school district’s curriculum, adding cultural foods to cooking classes, pushing for a change of Lenape’s racist school mascot, and we are always open to more ideas. Some things you might do in this club are fundraise, write letters and/or emails to politicians and community leaders, create posts for our Instagram, among other things.
This club can be something you do when you have a free day after school or you could dedicate as much of your time as you’d like to it. The only prerequisite to be in this club is to be an anti-racist person who believes that, as a country and a community, we need to change our racist institutions and attitudes. We can’t wait to see you at our club meetings!
