Superbowl Predictions: Will the Chiefs Unstoppable Reign Come to an End?
By: Sarah Nayak
The showdown between the Eagles and Chiefs is coming up on Sunday, February 2nd. Who will emerge victorious? The Eagles, who are in this case the underdogs, however, are entering this game with vengeance because of their devastating loss from the Chiefs at Superbowl LVII, or the Chiefs, who have been plowing their way through the season, losing only one game with Patrick Maholmes playing as quarterback, and are looking for a three- peat on Sunday. This meeting is expected to be a good one, so let’s take a closer look at both of the teams.
Eagles: What are their gadgets?
The Eagles have completely turned themselves around from last year’s questionable performance, and the Chiefs will be facing a much better team than they had in 2023. Vic Fangio’s defense currently ranks number one in the league, being a key part to their success. With the addition of Zach Baun, who is currently ranked second in the league for most tackles, and rookies Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, the Eagle’s defense has completely flipped the switch. Not just this, but the lottery prize Saquon Barkley, who leads the league in rushing yard will give Kansas City a huge challenge. This team is unrecognizable from previous years, and arguably has the most talented roster in the league as of now, so how does Kansas City plan on using their weapons against them? Let’s take a look.
Chiefs: Valuable Weapons
The Kansas City Chiefs have proven to be an outstanding team, with notable duo tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes is argued to be a generational quarterback, and one of his biggest strengths is his performance on fourth down. The numbers have shown that Patrick Mahomes has played his best on fourth down, then any other down, which will give Philadelphia something to look out for. Their defense must be ready for Mahomes’ quick legs and passes. He has shown that he extends many plays with his quick scrambling and finds a way to take advantage of his pinpoint accuracy. He has many reliable options, including running back Isiah Pacheco, and his most chosen option, Travis Kelce. Kelce has become the fifth tight end in NFL history to have more than 10,000 career receiving yards, he’s been consistent and dependable this entire season, so how will that come to the Chiefs benefit on Sunday?
How will this team perform against Philly in New Orleans, will they get the “three-peat” which they’re searching for, or will Philly take revenge and come home with the Lombardi trophy, we’ll find out in less than a week.
